Case History: Patterns of Disharmony

In contrast to treating disease, at YourBodyBalanced we treat Patterns of Disharmony. For each person and each treatment we develop a balancing formula. This formula is composed of the body parts, emotions, environmental influences, and psychological issues that are the highest priority at the time. In Oriental Medicine, neither physical disease nor psychological disharmony is considered to be a first cause; in some cases, they co-arise, in other cases physical or psychological manifestations of imbalance are noticed first. An example might be in the case of alcoholism. Either a physical proclivity (e.g. family history) or a psychological need to repress emotions such as frustration could precede the other, but once the pattern gets established, physical and psychological processes support each other leading to further imbalance. With that said, let's take a look at a hypothetical Pattern of Disharmony:

Let's take the case of Sue, a woman in her late 20's who in her young life was quite the social drinker. As the primary organ of detoxification, her Liver has been overtaxed, a set-up for a pattern in Chinese Medicine called Liver Qi Stagnation. Let's say Sue has the wonderful, but stressful, situation of coping with a new baby; she starts acting more irritable, which is a psychogical symptom of Liver Qi Stagnation. Her husband has just lost his job due to cutbacks at work. So, now there is huge financial stress, and our patient starts worrying a lot. Worry tends to afflict the stomach, and in combination with the existent Liver pattern creates a new pattern called “Liver Overacting on Stomach,” so now she experiences symptoms of Gastro-Esophageal Reflux. Then her demanding Mother-In-Law comes for a visit. . . With this additional environmental stress, Sue's feelings of frustration turn to anger, and she develops a new pattern, Liver Yang Rising, with an additional symptom, migraine headaches. A combination of Acupuncture and BodyTalk would tend to not only alleviate the symptoms in this case, but also unravel the pattern behind them.

Case History: Adrenal Exhaustion

To date, I’ve been practicing acupuncture for more than 15 years. Over that time, I’ve seen consistently good results from acupuncture treatments. In the last 4 years, I’ve also been doing BodyTalk, and the results continue to amaze me!

A man in his late 50’s came to me several months ago complaining of low back and knee pain. According to Oriental Medical theory, those symptoms, especially in combination, are associated with declining Kidney Energy, which is the foundation of all the body’s energies. Westerners would refer to this condition as Adrenal Exhaustion, which comes about from years of excess stress and overwork. The condition is not an easy one to treat; it can be partially addressed by long courses of herbal therapy and acupuncture.

Instead of prescribing herbs and acupuncture, I did a BodyTalk balance. Embedded in the BodyTalk formula was a cellular repair of the kidneys. I know this process to be deeply restorative, but the results completely impressed me. When the patient returned for a follow-up visit in 6 weeks, he reported that his knee pain was 95% gone; but that was just the beginning! Instead of the dull ache he was accustomed to, he described the feeling in his lower back as pleasurable, as if his sacrum were radiating warmth. He also reported that his posture was better. He is standing straighter and feeling real strength in his back muscles. This is resilient, durable strength, from the inside out!
